Gua Sha Technique
What is Gua Sha Technique?
Gua Sha is a traditional East Asian medical technique in which a smooth-edged massaging tool is used to scrape the affected area in gentle strokes to stimulate circulation, relieve pain, and reduce tension. Traditionally, the Gua Sha technique aims to move stagnant energy in the body known as chi. When this energy becomes blocked, it is believed to cause aches and stiffness in the body. This treatment can be performed on a person’s back, buttocks, neck, arms, and legs and is a unique approach to addressing chronic pain issues.
How Gua Sha Technique Works?
Using a bit of oil and a smooth-edged tool, our pain doctors and chiropractors will scrape the skin in one direction along the affected muscle tissue. The friction caused by the localized scrapping of the skin promotes blood circulation and the regeneration of tissues in the affected area while breaking down muscle tension. It can also take pressure off the nerves and distribute swelling throughout the area, so it does not accumulate in one place. The breakdown of tension in the affected area will release built up tension and provide lasting pain relief.
